Podcast intro examples and intro script templates

How strong podcast intros are built, copy-ready intro and outro scripts for interview, solo and co-hosted shows, and the cold-open trick of starting with the best moment.

By The Hilite team

01 · Structure

What goes in a podcast intro

Listeners decide in the first minute. A good intro has three parts in about 30 to 60 seconds: a hook (a line or clip that makes them want the episode), the show ID (who you are, what the show is), and the promise (what this episode gives them). Music is optional; a clear voice isn't.

  • Hook: 5 to 20 seconds
  • Show ID: one sentence
  • Episode promise: one sentence
  • Keep the whole thing under a minute

02 · Cold open

Start with the best moment

One interview host we spoke to picks the strongest 10 to 20 seconds of each conversation with her producer and plays it before the recorded intro. When nothing stands out, she sometimes asks the guest to say the key line again, more cleanly. The same moment usually becomes your social clip, so find it once with clip creation and use it twice.

  • Pick a line that raises a question
  • Keep it under 20 seconds
  • Reuse it as the social clip

03 · Examples

Podcast intro script examples

Interview: "[Cold-open clip.] That's [guest], who [one-line credential], and today she tells us [promise]. I'm [host], and this is [show], where [audience] hear how [topic] really works."

Solo: "If you've ever [problem], this one's for you. I'm [host], and on [show] I give you one [topic] lesson you can use today. Today: [promise]."

Co-hosted: "[Host 1]: Welcome back to [show]. [Host 2]: Where we say the thing everyone's thinking. [Host 1]: And this week it's [topic], because [reason]."

Branded or company: "From [company], this is [show], conversations with the people building [industry]. I'm [host]. Today, [guest] on [topic]."

  • Say the show name early
  • One promise per episode
  • Record the fixed parts once and reuse them

04 · Outros

Podcast outro script examples

End with one ask, not five: "Thanks for listening to [show]. If this helped, send it to one person who needs it. Next week: [teaser]. I'm [host]; see you then." More endings in how to end a podcast.

  • Thank the guest by name
  • One call to action
  • Tease the next episode

05 · Music

Add intro and outro music without a DAW

Choose a track from royalty-free podcast music (more on choosing in podcast intro music), then add it in the Hilite editor, where intro and outro sit on their own step so you don't rebuild them every episode.

  • Music under 15 seconds before the voice
  • Same intro every episode builds recognition
  • Check the license allows podcasts
