01 · Phone

How to do a voiceover on CapCut mobile

Open your project and move the playhead to where the voice should start. Tap Audio, then Voiceover (the microphone icon). Tap or hold the record button, speak, and stop. The clip appears under your video, where you can drag, trim or split it. CapCut occasionally renames these buttons, but the voiceover option always sits inside the audio tools.

  • Mute the original clip sound first if you only want your voice
  • Record in short sections, one per shot
  • Hold the phone 15 to 20 cm from your mouth

02 · Desktop

Place the playhead, then click the microphone icon above the timeline to open the recorder. Pick your input device, record, and stop. The voiceover lands on its own audio track. On desktop you can choose an external USB microphone, which makes a bigger difference to quality than any setting.

  • Select your USB mic in the recorder's input list
  • Wear headphones so the video's sound doesn't bleed into the take

03 · Clean up

Use CapCut's noise reduction and volume tools

Select the voiceover clip and look for the noise reduction toggle and volume slider in the audio settings. Noise reduction helps with steady hiss and fan noise. It does less for echo, and it can't remove ums, restarts or long pauses.

  • Turn on noise reduction and listen back
  • Raise voice volume, lower music
  • Duck music under speech if the option is available

04 · The cleaner route

Record a cleaner take and import it

For longer narration, record in the free voiceover recorder, edit the mistakes out by transcript, run AI audio enhancement, then export and import the file into CapCut as audio.

  • Export as MP3 or WAV
  • In CapCut: Audio, then import or extract from your files
  • Line the clip up with the first frame of each scene
