How do you get guided meditations onto Insight Timer?

It's an application and a manual upload, not an RSS feed — which catches out anyone arriving from podcasting. Here's what the process actually involves.

The thing that catches people out

There is no RSS feed

If you've published a podcast before, the model is familiar: you host the audio, you hand over one feed URL, and every directory pulls new episodes automatically for ever after.

Meditation platforms don't work that way. Insight Timer, like most of them, is a curated library rather than an open directory — you apply to publish, and once approved you upload each track individually through their own interface. There is no feed to point at it.

We'd rather say that plainly than imply otherwise. Hilite gets you a finished, studio-quality file. Getting it onto Insight Timer is a step you do yourself, and no tool can automate it away, because the platform doesn't offer a route in.

Step one

Apply as a teacher first

Publishing requires a teacher or publisher account, which is separate from the ordinary listening account and has to be approved. You'll be asked about your background, your practice and what you intend to publish.

Formal certification isn't universally required, but a clear account of your experience helps. Approval isn't instant, so start the application before you've finished recording rather than after — the waiting is the slow part, not the upload.

One thing worth settling before you apply: if you're recording someone else's script, make sure its licence permits you to publish the result. Platforms ask you to confirm you hold the rights.

Tip

Requirements and review times change. Check Insight Timer's own current guidance before applying — this page describes the shape of the process, not their live terms.

Step two

Have the whole package ready, not just the audio

The upload asks for more than a file. Preparing it all in advance turns a fiddly evening into ten minutes.

Pay particular attention to how the track opens and closes. Meditation listeners often start a session with their eyes already shut, so a sudden loud beginning is jarring. Leave a beat of quiet at each end — room tone, not digital silence.

  • A clean, evenly levelled audio file with no clipping
  • Cover artwork, square, readable at thumbnail size
  • A title that says what the practice is and how long it takes
  • A short description — who it's for and what happens in it
  • Accurate duration, and the right category and tags
  • Confirmation you hold the rights to the script you read

Worth knowing

The same audio goes further than one platform

Because there's no feed, nothing stops you publishing the same recording in several places. A meditation uploaded to Insight Timer can also go out as a podcast episode through an ordinary RSS host, which puts it on Spotify and Apple Podcasts without further approval.

That combination tends to work better than either alone. The curated apps bring an audience already looking for meditation; the podcast directories are open, instant, and yours to control. One recording, one afternoon, two routes to a listener.
