How to record Google Meet audio

Capture usable audio from a Google Meet conversation, understand the difference between Workspace recording and a separate audio workflow, and prepare the files for editing.

By The Hilite team

01 — ACCESS

Check whether your Google Workspace account can record

Google Meet’s built-in recording availability depends on the Workspace edition, administrator settings, and meeting role. Check the Record meeting option before relying on it.

If built-in recording is unavailable, use a separate browser recording workflow with the guest’s permission.

02 — CONSENT

Tell every participant before recording

Meet displays a recording notice when its built-in feature is used, but you should still explain the purpose and planned use of the audio. Get clear agreement before continuing.

Do not record confidential calls without the required organizational and legal approval.

03 — SOUND

Reduce echo and connection problems

Use headphones, choose the correct microphone in Meet settings, close bandwidth-heavy apps, and ask every speaker to join from a quiet room.

A local backup from each important speaker protects the interview from network glitches.

04 — RECORD

Record and locate the Meet file

Start recording from the meeting controls when available and confirm the visible indicator. When the call ends, wait for Google to process the file and deliver it to the organizer’s Drive location.

Download and back up the source before editing.

05 — FINISH

Edit the spoken audio after the call

Move the audio into Hilite to remove setup chatter, false starts, and long pauses through the transcript. Enhance the voices lightly and export the finished version.

If the content becomes a podcast, prepare the title, description, transcript, and publishing assets after the edit.
