How to edit audio with Hilite’s text-based editor

Hilite’s text-based editor lets you shape a spoken recording through its transcript. Instead of searching through a waveform for every unwanted moment, you can find the words, select them, and remove the corresponding audio.

This guide covers the complete workflow: open audio in the editor, review the transcript, cut unwanted dialogue, restore an accidental change, listen through the result, and export the finished recording.

Open an existing draft or create a new episode by recording audio or bringing in a recording you already have. Continue until the episode opens in the Hilite editor.

Hilite processes the spoken audio and displays the dialogue as a transcript alongside the recording. Wait for the transcript to finish loading before making detailed edits.

Read through the transcript while listening to the recording. Look for false starts, repeated thoughts, long tangents, or conversation that should not appear in the final version.

Start with one small, obvious edit. This makes it easier to learn how the written selection maps to the audio before removing a longer section.

Click and drag across the words or sentences you want to remove. Check that the selection begins and ends in the right place.

Choose Cut. Hilite removes the selected transcript text and the matching section of audio, allowing the surrounding conversation to play together.

If you remove the wrong passage or decide that the conversation sounded better before the cut, use Undo.

Undo restores the most recent change so you can adjust the selection and try again. Review the restored section before continuing with the next edit.

When the transcript looks right, listen through the edited recording from beginning to end. Pay special attention to every cut so you can catch abrupt transitions, missing context, or words that were clipped too closely.

Once you are happy with the result, choose Export and follow the available options to create the finished audio file.
