How to enhance audio quality with Hilite

Hilite’s Audio Enhance tools can help make speech clearer and reduce distracting background noise. You can use enhancement with audio recorded in Hilite or with an existing recording brought into the workspace.

This guide shows how to apply enhancement, compare the original and processed versions, switch the effect on or off, and decide which sound works best for the episode.

Start with a recording in Hilite. It can be a new recording captured in the workspace, an existing draft, or audio created somewhere else.

Enhancement is most useful when the voice is understandable but the recording contains steady room noise, uneven clarity, or a less polished sound. Severely distorted or clipped audio may still require another recording.

Use the Audio Enhance control to turn enhancement on for the recording. Depending on where you begin, Hilite may offer this option while the audio is being prepared or after it reaches the editor.

Continue to the editor after making your selection. Hilite will prepare the audio and display its transcript so you can listen and continue editing.

Play a representative section with enhancement turned on. Choose a passage that contains both the speaker’s voice and the background sound you want to reduce.

Turn enhancement off and replay the same passage. Comparing the same few seconds makes changes in voice clarity, room noise, and overall balance easier to hear.

You can switch enhancement on or off from the editor’s Enhance controls. If track-level controls are available, select the audio track and open its enhancement options.

Use these controls to compare versions as often as needed. The best choice is the version that improves clarity without making the speaker sound unnatural or overly processed.

Leave enhancement in your preferred state, then listen to more than one part of the recording. Background conditions can change during an episode, so check both quieter and noisier passages.

When you are satisfied, continue editing the transcript, save the episode as a draft, or move on to export and publishing.
